Today is Monday and we were back at work. We arrived on Friday morning in Frankfurt. Fortunately the weather was not too cold – we had no thick jackets. Friday and the weekend was used for all the laundry, some relaxing and splitting up the souvenirs. We also cleaned and filled our new cupboard which we got just before our trip started.
Well no we’ll try to write about each day of our trip. This will be done in English – we used it for the last 3,5 weeks! If someone can’t understand it you have to come and visit us in Karlsruhe then we can tell you everything. With a bit of luck we’ll show you all our pictures. Enjoy!

We started the day with a delicious breakfast from the hotel’s buffet before packing for almost two hours. In order to get to know the weight of our luggage we had to carry it to the gym as this was the only place with a scale. After that we checked out and ordered the taxi to the airport for the evening. In the afternoon we relaxed in a nearby mall which had a Starbucks combined with a Borders book shop. It even had a rollercoaster in the mall
In the evening we met with the guys for dinner. For dinner we observed something we hadn’t really noticed before. Everybody ordered food and the food was served but nobody started eating. They all waited for sunset and for the official signal to break the fasting. After that everybody ate a date before starting with the regular meal.
And all that was left was the ride to the airport.
Genting Highlands
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007
Same procedure as yesterday: Monorail to KL Sentral and from there we started our tour to Genting Highlands. From the base station we drove with the cable car up to the mountain resort. At about 1700m above sea level we found the biggest hotel in the world (more than 6000 rooms) and an outdoor and indoor theme park.
We started in the theme park with some rides. But with the humid conditions some of the rides don’t look too well and so we skipped the ones which didn’t seem safe enough
After that we had a short look at the indoor park with exciting features like a snow room where you can touch real snow or a christmas baby roller coaster. On our way back to the cable car station we stopped at the casino to have a look at all the poker tables.
For the evening Alex had planned a farewell dinner at a fish restaurant. At this place you had to chose the fish you want to hav killed and cooked for you. There we got delicious and fresh food for really affordable prices (in comparison to what you would have paid in Germany). On our way back to get our luggage we met Mustaffa at the dorms and he gave us a ride back to the hotel. My first ride in a real Malaysian Proton.
With Mustaffa and Alex we had a night dinner near our place. As Mustaffa is a Muslim and it was Ramadan we were really astonished how much he was able to eat even at midnight when he has already had regular dinner
And the waiters were probably really happy when we left because we had been the last guests in the restaurant for a while.
Trip to Putrajaya
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007
This morning we started early with taking the monorail to KL Sentral. From there we rode the KLIA transit (train to the airport) to Putrajaya. Putrajaya is a planned city located South of KL. It is the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia. Opposed to the Lonely Planet there were no tour busses running from the train stop. So we changed our plan and took a public bus to the mosqu which is the central place.
From there we walked around and had a look at the new buildings. From the Putra bridge we started a guided tour on a boat. They showed us the different government buildings and the really nice and modern bridges of Putrajaya.
After the tour we walked for a bit on the promenade. The promenade around the sea is really nice with nice plants but there were no other people walking around which felt strange. For the way back to the train station we took the public bus again. But this time we didn’t catch the one we intended to catch and so we got a free tour to the living area.
Back in KL we had some pizza in the Midvalley megamall and ended up buying some dragon fruit.
Mall hopping
Monday, October 1st, 2007So today was not too interesting. No real sights, no big travelling. We checked the travel guides on what was left in the greater area of Kuala Lumpur and checked at the tourist office what we could do for the last couple of days. As the official tours are really expensive we decided to organise all on our own.
In the afternoon we continued with mall hopping. After that holiday we are probably fed up by shopping malls. And finally we had been to Mc Donalds for the first time in Malaysia.
